How to become
You will usually need 2 or more GCSEs for a level 2 course, or 5 GCSEs for a level 3 course.
A college course can give you some of the technical knowledge and practical skills you'll need to become an electrician. You'll still need practical experience in the workplace to become fully qualified, you could do this via an apprenticeship or an NVQ, for example NVQ Level 3 Craft Certificate.
It is important to check your preferred course provider's entry requirements for guidance.
Where can this role lead
No matter what role you start in or where you are in your career path, there are always opportunities to develop and progress in health and care.
The Electrical Technician role is one which can be the foundation for a number of different career paths, largely dependent upon the individual. But individuals who want to continue their learning can do so through the HNC/HND/Degree path or equivalent NVQ qualifications which can link directly to Operational roles within the NHS such as the Estates Officer Role, Estates Manager, Estates Manager (Specialist) and ultimately the Head of Service Estates. These roles are essentially all Operational roles but equally depending upon the module taken individual could go down the Design/Management path – Project Manager/Electrical Design Engineer.
